Waterbeach has celebrated an important milestone as the new development at the former barracks welcomed its first residents to their new home; a couple and their young son who have moved from Cambridge to invest in a better quality of life for their family.
Sam and Deni chose a three-bedroom Stonebond house within easy walking distance of the development’s first primary school and the Wild Woods play area, which takes children from the forest floor into the canopy above through a series of play features that grow in scale and complexity.
Sam said: “We are so excited to be starting a new chapter of our lives in a new home at Waterbeach, which gives us lots of open space and more opportunities to spend time outdoors as a family. The location is also perfect as I can hop on a train at Waterbeach station and Deni has an easy commute to Cambridge Business Park.
“Our son is also excited about his new room and the garden and is looking forward to other children moving in so he can make new friends. He can’t wait to be the first person down the slide when the woodland play area opens in the spring.”
To mark the arrival of the first residents, the 1.1km lake loop has been opened up to enable people to take a walk around the development’s 23 acre lake. Alongside this the new walking and cycling route through the development has been opened, which connects from the A10 Cambridge Research Park roundabout, through the development, connecting to the refurbished Sports Hall and Studio and on into Waterbeach village. This will help the first families to explore the new neighbourhood, but also open up the development to the wider community.
The Communities Team at Urban&Civic, the master developer for the site, welcomed the family with a gift and a hamper of locally produced food and drink.
