It’s an exciting time for the Waterbeach development, with our first residents moving in and looking forward to their first Christmas in their new home. November also saw the opening up of the walking and cycling route around the Lake, and the play area at the development Gateway, which has been great to see the local community enjoying.
With the new residents moving in, we have also been able to open up the walking and cycle routes through the new development. We include in this newsletter a map to show the route between the Denny End Road Barracks entrance and the development gateway at the A10 roundabout (opposite the Cambridge Research Park) — which takes approximately 10 minutes to cycle. We have also been working with our active travel partner smart journeys to bring forward sustainable travel options and, in this edition, we are launching a new liftshare scheme to Waterbeach and the surrounding communities. We hope you sign up and give it a try as it’s a great way to save money as well as reduce your carbon footprint.
We have also been asked about transport plans in the wider area and have included an update from the Greater Cambridge Partnership, which includes the proposed relocation of Waterbeach station, and Waterbeach Greenway — which was recently consulted on.
The new planting at Waterbeach Woods is going well with nearly 70 mature trees planted in October and the rest of the planting taking place during the winter months. Work is currently running on schedule and we’re looking forward to opening the Wild Woods play area in the spring.
We’ve had lots of great community events and activities this year and the Christmas Waterbeach Community Market on Sunday, 17 December promises to be something special. As well as over 40 stalls with festive food, drinks and gifts, there will be live music, bell ringers, bike servicing, a pop-up art exhibition, a Christmas trail around the lake and festive treats and activities from Stonebond and Cala.
There are also lots of regular sports and activities in and around Waterbeach. Whether you want a game of squash, to try out the equipment and classes at Inspired Health & Fitness Club or explore Wicken Fen’s new Winter Trail, there is something for everyone.
For those who are interested in the new homes coming forward, our housebuilders — Stonebond and Cala — have their show homes and marketing suites open now, with information about the range of apartments and homes available, as well as incentives to support buyers. The first shared ownership homes will also be available soon, so make sure you have registered with Longhurst Group if you are interested.
